Every year, dozens of movies hit cinema theaters. A good number of them rise to become all time classics. It has been observed that producers nowadays opt to release movies in three sequels. The following is a list of the top ten best trilogies of all time.

1.The Lord of rings

The Lord of Rings is undoubtedly the best movie trilogy of all time. The blockbuster adventure film was based on a sensational fantasy novel by English author J.R.R. Tolkien. The film consists of three excellent episodes directed by Peter Jackson. The first to be released was Lord of Ring: The Fellowship of the Ring which was released in 2001.A year later, Lord of Ring: The two towers was released. The last episode, Lord of Ring: Return of the King, was release in December 13, 2003. This trilogy is fantastic and is full of breathtaking adventure.

2. Jason Bourne

This action thriller is adapted from Robert Ludlum’s The Bourne Series. The movie features three epic episodes; The Bourne Identity (2002), The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007). The film is about Jason Bourne, a CIA assassin who is out to discover his identity after suffering a serious memory loss. Jason Bourne’s trilogy is well known for its action packed and intriguing plot.

3.The Godfather

Godfather is a scintillating crime drama trilogy consisting of Godfather (1972), Godfather II (1974) and Godfather III (1990). The film is directed by Francis Ford Coppola and is based on a novel, The Godfather by Mario Puzo. Godfather II is made up of remarkable plot and is arguably the best of the three. Once it was released, the trilogy won 9 out of the 29 academic awards in which it was nominated.

 

4. Star Wars

This epic trilogy features Star Wars (1997), The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and The Return of the Jedi (1983). What makes the trilogy a hit is the intricacy of its plot making.

5.The Dollars (Man with no Name)

The Dollar trilogy was not meant to be a trilogy but was regarded as such since it was marketed as a trilogy. These Spaghetti western films were directed by Sergio Leone and consisted of; A Fistful Dollar (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965) and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (1966). The films are rated among the best Western films of all time.

6.Back to the Future

Back to the Future is a 1985 American comic science fiction written by Robert Zemeckis. The trilogy is made up of Part One, Part Two and Part Three. Back to the Future is well known for being the most successful film of 1985 winning a number of accolades.

 

7.The Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean film series is a fantasy film produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and is based Walt Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean. The film consists of three epic adventure episodes subtitled; The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End.

8. Spiderman

Spiderman trilogy is an amazing superhero film consisting of Spiderman (2002), Spiderman (2004) and Spiderman 3 (2007). The three episodes were directed by Sam Raimi and featured Tobey Maguire as Spiderman. The trilogy was a huge success upon release and grossed at $ 2.5 billion worldwide.

9.The Dark Knight

Christopher Nolan’s trilogy The Dark Knight is a superhero thriller film based on a fictional superhero, batman. The series started with the release of Batman Begins (2005) followed by another hit The Dark Knight (2008). In July 20, 2012 the final episode of the Batman series was released featuring Christian Bale as the Batman. Upon its release, the final episode; The Dark Night Rises was a huge success grossing at over $1.08 billion worldwide.

10. The Matrix

Written and directed by The Wachowskis, The Matrix is a brilliant American science action film featuring renowned actors like Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Hugo Weaving, Joe Pantoliano and Carrie-Anne-Moss. The film consists of; The Matrix (1999), The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolution which was released six months after The Matrix Reloaded. The matrix was a huge success and it won four academic awards alongside other accolades. The film featured in the list of the greatest science fiction films.
