Top 10 Referees to watch in FIFA 2014 World Cup

In soccer, the referees are the controllers of the game and have to make all the biggest decisions. In the World Cup, there are the people with the most pressure and are credited with the outcome of every game. Let’s look at the top 10 referees in the FIFA World Cup this summer in Brazil.

1. Ravshan Irmatov, Uzbekistan

He is the referee with the most experience in the game as he has been in charge of a total of 115 international matches. Among his honors, he was awarded the AFC Referee of the Year in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 and is the most respected referee in soccer.

2. Howard Webb, United Kingdom.

Howard Webb, United Kingdom

Webb is an English Premier League ref who has taken charge of 111 international matches in his career. Webb was in charge of the 2010 World Cup final between Spain and Netherlands. He is a very respectable and authoritative ref and has gotten a lot of praise from analysts, colleagues, football organizations, coaches and players.

3.Yuichi Nishimura, Japan

He has been in charge of 91 international games in his career. He has been awarded as the Japanese League Ref of the Year in both 2009 and 2010 and will be in charge of the opener of 2014 World Cup between Brazil and Croatia on Thursday.

4. Benjamin Williams, Australia

Benjamin has referee 77 international games and among his honors, he has been awarded the AFC Referee of the Year in 2013, Assistant Ref of the Year in 2002 for THE National Soccer league and the ACT Sportstar of the Year in 2008.

5. Pedro Proenca, Portugal

Among his honors, he was declared the Portuguese Ref of the Year in 2006 and 2007, in 2011 named the Best Referee of the season by the PFF and also voted the Best Ref in 2012 by the IFFHS. He has been in charge of 89 international matches and these awards show that he is among the best referees in Brazil.

 

6.Bjorn Kuipers, Netherlands

Hi is considered among the best in the Royal Dutch Football Association and has taken charge of 81 international matches throughout his career. He was awarded the Referee of the Year in late 2013 by a refereeing European football website and refereed the UEFA Champions League final in 2014 between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

7.Jonas Eriksson, Sweden

Jonas is a reputedly multi-millionaire who has been in charge of 89 International matches throughout his career. He has been refereeing full-time for FIFA from 2002 and is known for his cautiousness to fair play when in charge of a game.

8.Cuneyt Cakir, Turkey 81

Cuneyt has taken charge of 81 international matches in his career and was called up in FIFA in 2006. He is considered an expert because of the quality skills he shows when in charge of a game.

9.Marco Rodriguez, Mexico

He has referees internationally from 2000 and has been in charge of 79 international matches. He has a tendency of being strict and gives a lot of red and yellow cards. He is the harshest of all referees and as a player; you do not want to get on wrong sides with him.

10.Roberto Moreno, Panama

Roberto has been a referee in 96 international matches in his career. He is considered among the best in the game for his knowledge and is respected by many because of the way he takes charge of the games professionally.
